How books price these lines (and where they slip)

Sportsbooks usually build a combo line from separate single-stat projections, then add them and pad the juice. That process leaves two recurring cracks.

First, correlation gets approximated. Books do not always model how a specific player’s stats move together, so the implied volatility on the combo can be off. Second, the vig on combos tends to be fatter than on plain points props, because fewer people shop them.

  1. Minutes floor. Combos are counting stats. A player at 24 minutes instead of 32 loses production across every category at once. That is the single biggest killer.
  2. Role, not reputation. Is she the primary creator tonight or the third option? Injuries upstream change usage fast in an eight-woman rotation.
  3. Matchup by position. Some teams leak rebounds to opposing centers and nothing else. Position-specific defensive data tells you which half of the combo has room to grow.
  4. Pace and total. A high game total lifts every counting stat. A grinding low-possession game caps them.
  5. Price across books. Never take the first number. Combo lines drift between books more than points props do.
